My interpretation of Slugma. A kind of volcanic nudibranch. It absorbs a lot of volcanic ashes and stones and turn them into natural weapons. Its skin is made to resemble magma, and the yellow parts are phosphorescent. As it grows, it uses a mix of ashes, stones and its own secretion to form a hard shell and eventually evolves into Magcargo.
The idea itself itself is magnificent, I am very impressed by your interpretation of Slugma, and it is easily seen by an imaginative eye how it could "evolve" into Magcargo. I love the detail work put into it, I only wish it were larger. The actual Pokemon takes up less than 40% of the page, which is a shame because some of the best work is done in the feelers (excellent touch) and the phosphorescent. It is also a little difficult to see which was Slugma is leaning, A few moments of looking and its body seems to be leaning to its right in the front, while its backside is pulled left, and its spine is straight. I also wish there were a little more red/orangeish tints in the breast, and along the back, to more closely resemble Game Freak's idea of living lava, (this Slugma looks like it has sat around for a day or two and is cooling off) But I wouldn't want much more than a shade or two thrown in, because your interpretation is gorgeous. I hope to see a Magcargo soon!
Yep XD You got me... Actually I saw the photo first, then started drawing realistic pokémon a few weeks later. When someone requested that I do Slugma, I remembered the pic and used it as ref. I just put my personal touches and here we go!
This is some cool shit man. I love scientific taxonomy, and this mixes it with pokemon, which is awesome.
All of these 'Nolanized' pokemon images popping up around the place really makes it hard to not to want to return to the series. However, trying to get back into playing the games, and then looking at these fantastic pieces of imaginative glory really sucks hard.
